The Directors of Elect come from backgrounds in HMRC, private tax consultancy, and surveying (RICS), and have chosen to take this expertise, along with our practical knowledge of operating in highly customer focused environments, to provide a service that meets both the increasing expectations of HMRC and delivers the levels of service excellence they would expect themselves.
Their main focus is in offering secure Capital Allowances and R & D services, however the team are also able to offer Construction Cost Consultancy, Land Remediation Relief claims, and Tax Investigations Consultancy.
In order to fulfil this high level of expectations Elect has invested in up to date technology to reflect our commitment to the progressive environment in which they operate.
As a consequence, not only has Elect seen an increased demand for their services, they secured the acquisition of TaxAdjusters in 2015 adding to their team and experience one of the longest established capital allowances providers in the UK.
Following on from this success they made a further acquisition of quantity surveying specialists Stamp Associates in July 2016 to strengthen their surveying division.
The Team at ElectCA
Iain’s career started with Davis Langdon and Everest in 2001 during his sandwich year as a Quantity Surveying student. Upon completion of his final year of study he was invited back to the then re-branded Davis Langdon (now AECOM) as a permanent employee.
Taking the opportunities and experience available to him, he sat the APC in 2004 and become a Chartered Quantity Surveyor. Iain’s experience was mainly based in the commercial sector from office fit out projects for clients such as the passport office to master planning works for new business parks and multi million pound residential apartment blocks.
In 2010 Iain took the bold step to set up his own Quantity Surveying practice, drawing on all his previous experience to offer a personal, professional, dedicated service to his clients. Here Iain was able to focus his business in the niche area of Capital Allowances covering all commercial property types and sectors, together with continuing to work on commercial and domestic quantity surveying projects.
Iain’s decision to steer his business towards capital allowances and always looking to develop relationships and work with like-minded people, led to Iain and Richard setting up Elect in 2014.
Iain’s vision for the business is to foster exceptional relationships with clients based on trust and competence, providing a service which can be wholeheartedly relied on. Iain sees investing in training to keep at the forefront of knowledge and technology as essential to maintain the highest possible quality of service and a happy workforce, never forgetting the importance of the right work life balance.
Richard’s career started with the Inland Revenue (HMRC) in 1985 with a “summer job” as a casual clerical assistant. The “summer” lasted 19 years and saw Richard progress through the grades, with 9 years in the Collection service, before training as an Inspector in 1999. Richard was subsequently promoted to Compliance Manager, managing a mixed Corporation Tax Aspect Enquiry and Compliance support team, of 36 staff, across 2 offices – Oxford and Milton Keynes.
An opportunity to step outside of the Civil Service presented itself in late 2004 resulting in Richard joining Abbey Tax in January 2005, initially as a Senior Tax Consultant.
Having gained a taste for the commercial world, in 2007 Richard seized the opportunity to grow Abbey Tax’s fledgling ReCap Capital Allowances Surveying service and in the 6 years following, took it from a team of 2 part time staff to a full time staff of 10.
With many changes afoot Richard sought the next chapter in his career and took the decision to leave Abbey Tax in February 2014 to set up Elect Capital Allowances Ltd (ECA) with friend (and Quantity Surveyor) Iain Stamp.
Richard’s vision and aspirations for Elect is to see the same excellent client (and HMRC) relationships built as he and Iain have achieved in their previous roles, whilst also developing and utilising the latest technology. Building a team and investing both in training and resource, to ensure a service delivery that is careful and accurate, with real attention to detail, so that all claims made to HMRC are safe and secure. Away from work (and family) Richard is a dedicated Sky Blue (despite them currently having no home ground), and an “enthusiastic” golfer.
Linsey’s career started working within a CAD company, which developed the application of hand held lasers and 360 degree photography to efficiently collect, process and deploy collaborative facility data.
She joined Taxadjusters in 2007 as a Capital Allowances claim valuer, and soon found a love for all things Tax, within the 8 years working at Taxadjusters Linsey worked in all the departments gaining vast knowledge in all areas of Capital Allowances.
Taxadjusters merged with Elect in 2015 and Linsey became client manager for Elect.
Outside of work Linsey competes across the UK at county level with her show horses.
Thomas started his career with Elect in July 2016 as an Assistant Surveyor. Previously, he worked as a supervisor at a Cricket & Hockey club and also spent one night a week volunteering his time as a Special Constable with Staffordshire Police.
At present, Thomas is studying part-time at Derby University, working towards a BSc (Hons) Quantity Surveying and Commercial Management degree.
In his free time, Thomas enjoys spending time with his border collie, Cooper, as well as climbing fells and mountains in The Lake District and Snowdonia.
